Sea-Based Missile Defense Test Fails

The Navy's sea-based missile defense system failed to shoot down a ballistic missile target yesterday in the skies off the coast of Hawaii, the Missile Defense Agency announced. Initial indications show the cruiser Lake Erie successfully detected and tracked an Aries target, which was launched at 7:15 EDT from the Pacific Missile Range Facility on the island of Kauai, MDA said.
