Senate Appropriators Approve FY-01 Supplemental Bill

The Senate Appropriations Committee today approved $5.9 billion in additional defense spending for fiscal year 2001. The committee added $78 million to the supplemental request President Bush sent to Congress June 1. The House approved a version of the bill yesterday. The Senate committee added $161 million to the president's request for operations and maintenance, $45 million for procurement, $69 million for the defense health program, and $5 million for defense activities at the Energy Department.
