Senate Appropriators Block DOD Reprogramming Requests For Army Vehicles

The Senate Appropriations Committee has denied more than $360 million in Defense Department requests to use Army vehicle funding to pay war-related bills in Afghanistan, according to a congressional letter. The largest reprogramming denial was for $171 million that DOD had sought to divert from fiscal year 2013 humvee reset work, according to a June 27 letter sent to Pentagon Comptroller Robert Hale by Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Richard Durbin (D-IL) and Ranking Member Thad Cochran (R-MS).
