Senate Approves $87 Billion Iraq Supplemental Bill

The Senate late this afternoon voted 87-12 to approve an $87 billion supplemental appropriations bill for the ongoing war in Iraq and Afghanistan. The House passed its version of the bill earlier today. The bill includes $20 billion for reconstruction efforts in Iraq. The Senate yesterday added a provision that makes half the $20 billion a direct loan, which Iraq would have to repay. The White House strongly opposed the loan measure. The House narrowly defeated a similar amendment today...
