Senate Committee To Examine Role Of National Guard In Homeland Security

Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) today will offer up a bill to create a cabinet-level homeland security agency that makes no mention of the Defense Department's role, but Lieberman told that he would take a long look at how the National Guard fits within the proposed agency's domain. Lieberman's bill mirrors one offered in the House last March by Reps. Mac Thornberry (R-TX) and Ellen Tauscher (D-CA).
