Senate defense bill would terminate CMO post

The Senate Armed Services Committee has approved a fiscal year 2021 defense authorization bill that would "terminate" the position of the Pentagon's chief management officer, a post lawmakers once intended to be the third-most senior official at the Defense Department. The bill states the defense secretary must develop a plan to eliminate the CMO job and divvy up the post's responsibilities to other DOD officials no later than September 30, 2022.
