Senate Democrats oppose defense spending bill over Trump's wall

Senate Appropriations Committee Democrats today voted against the fiscal year 2020 defense spending bill after failing to add measures that would block the Pentagon from spending funds on President Trump’s southern border wall. The bill passed the committee, advancing to the full Senate, on GOP support alone by a 16-15 vote, telegraphing the difficulty lawmakers will have finding bipartisan consensus on spending, despite having already reached a broader budget agreement.
