Senate-passed authorization bill includes M113 reporting requirement

The Senate aims to require the Army to justify its pursuit of upgrades to the M113 armored troop carrier, amid longstanding concerns about the vehicle's survivability. The fiscal year 2018 defense policy bill passed by the chamber Sept. 18 includes an amendment from Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-TX) that bars the Army from spending funds to upgrade the legacy troop transport until the secretary has submitted a report to the congressional defense committees.
