SOCOM plans to award two contracts for AC-130J laser subsystems by end of FY-18

U.S. Special Operations Command is refining development plans for its AC-130J Ghostrider laser demonstration and expects to award two subsystem manufacturing contracts by the end of September, a command official told Inside Defense. In a June 26 email, Air Force Lt. Col. Oluyomi Faminu, technology insertion division chief in SOCOM's fixed-wing program executive office, said the command will demonstrate a 4-kilowatt laser on the ground in fiscal year 2019 and now plans to flight test a full-power, 60-kilowatt laser...
