Spending deal adds billions more to FY-22 defense budget, includes $13.6B for Ukraine aid

Congress has hammered out a final fiscal year 2022 spending package with $782 billion for total U.S. defense, which is $4 billion more than what lawmakers previously authorized and about $30 billion more than President Biden initially requested. If passed, the total FY-22 defense budget would be about 6%, or $42 billion higher than it was in FY-21, according to fact sheets and summaries released by congressional appropriators.
