Trump signs sweeping executive order to revamp U.S. maritime industry

President Trump today signed an expansive executive order aimed at revitalizing the United States maritime industrial base, directing the creation of a "maritime action plan (MAP)" to rejuvenate both commercial and military shipbuilding. The 18-page executive order directs the assistant to the president for national security affairs (APNSA) to collaborate with multiple cabinet secretaries -- including the heads of the Defense, Transportation, Commerce, Labor and Homeland Security departments -- to draw up this MAP strategy.
