Wynne Calls for Increased Emphasis on Safety in System Design

The Pentagon's top acquisition official wants the services and defense agencies to pay more attention to safety in designing weapon systems. In a Sept. 23 memorandum , Michael Wynne, the acting under secretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics, notes that the defense secretary last year set up the Defense Safety Oversight Council to reduce Defense Department mishap and accident rates by 50 percent in two years.
