Army pushing for new cannon-delivered munitions to follow DOD policy

The Army is renewing an effort to procure cannon-fired rounds to replace cluster munitions, following a revised Pentagon policy restricting the types of munitions the U.S. military is allowed to buy. The Defense Department at the end of last year reversed an outright ban on the use of cluster munitions that was due to take effect Jan. 1, 2019, a policy approved in 2008 by then-Defense Secretary Robert Gates.
