Commerce Department tracking facilities with classified defense contracts

The Commerce Department is in the midst of a three-year effort to gather information on all the facilities that have a classified contract with the Pentagon, according to a source with knowledge of the effort. This survey is being released to 12,000 facilities, the source said. The Commerce Department released about 8,000 of these surveys over the past two years, with the goal to get through the final 4,000 surveys during 2017, according to the source.
