Vice Adm. Stuart Munsch, who currently leads the Navy's new warfighting directorate, will move to the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The Defense Department disclosed Munsch's nomination for the role of director for operational plans and joint force development, or J7, in a flag officer announcement today.

Munsch since October 2019 has been the deputy chief of naval operations for warfighting development, or N7, a new position the Navy stood up last year.

The Pentagon last week announced that Vice Adm. Lisa Franchetti, the commander of U.S. 6th Fleet, will become the new head of the warfighting directorate.

Today the Defense Department also announced the promotion of Brig. Gen. Austin Renforth, who leads the Marine Corps' joint capabilities integration and development directorate, to major general.
