The Air Force Research Laboratory plans to spend up to $99 million on multiple contracts investigating electro-optical and radio frequency sensor technology, according to a notice released today.

AFRL is looking for research within 15 categories ranging from antenna and electromagnetic "scattering" for target detection to infrared search and track technology and autonomous data processing.

The lab is also interested in developing sensors that can "perform multiple, simultaneous tasks controlled through an intelligent sensor resource manager," such as the "passive radar illumination selection manager," the broad agency announcement states.

AFRL will post a separate BAA in April to request proposals for the awards, which will be worth anywhere between $100,000 and $10 million each. It's not clear when the Air Force intends to announce the winners.
