The Air Force Scientific Advisory Board will launch its fiscal year 2018 studies at a Jan. 23 meeting in California, according to a Federal Register notice published Monday.

AFSAB plans to study how the service can maintain its technological advantage as Secretary Heather Wilson kicks off a similar yearlong enterprise analysis of science and technology investments, Inside Defense previously reported.

The board's second project will advise the Air Force on which multidomain command-and-control technologies to pursue following the service's 2017 Enterprise Capability Collaboration Team study, the results of which are expected to be briefed to senior leaders today.

"The purpose of this Air Force Scientific Advisory Board quarterly meeting is to kick off the Scientific Advisory Board's FY-18 studies, offering board members the opportunity to hear directly from a wide-range of Department of Defense subject matter experts and provide dedicated time to begin collaboration on research," the Nov. 27 notice stated.

The quarterly meeting will take place at the Beckman Center of the National Academies of Sciences and Engineering in Irvine, CA, including a half-hour session that is open to the public.
