The Air Force today awarded Northrop Grumman an undefinitized contract modification worth up to $2.4 billion for continued development of the Next-Generation Overhead Persistent Infrared program's first two polar orbiting satellites.

In a Defense Department contract announcement released today, the service notes that the modification adds the following efforts to the original contract: Phase One design and development, critical path flight hardware procurement and risk-reduction efforts to lead the program to critical design review.

Today's award obligates $70.5 million for the effort, and work is expected to be completed by December 2025.
