Air Force completing supplemental EIS for F-35 Pacific beddown

The Air Force is conducting a supplemental Environmental Impact Study as part of the process to beddown the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter at Eielson Air Force Base, AK.

The service plans to house 48 jets at the base, which will serve as its Pacific hub for F-35 operations. It signed a record of decision last April after completing an EIS, which it must now amend, according to a March 29 Federal Register Notice.

The notice states the service has adjusted part of its plan to onboard the F-35 at the base to address stormwater runoff, establish more areas for equipment and material and provide additional utilities access to part of the base. The service expects each project will have "a positive effect on facility and infrastructure development on the base."

The Air Force will solicit public feedback into the draft supplemental EIS through May 15.
