The Air Force used a B-52 to perform the final captive-carry test of the Air-launched Rapid Response Weapon on Aug. 8, demonstrating the hypersonic vehicle's ability to transmit telemetry and GPS data to ground stations off the coast of Southern California.

"The test verified system integration with the B-52 launch platform and telemetry while practicing concepts of operations that will be utilized during its first booster test flight later this year," an Air Force news release said.

The service will integrate ARRW with the tactical boost glide demonstration system developed in a joint program with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.
