The Air Force is re-competing a contract for ground-based space situational awareness sustainment and modification, and will hold an industry day later this month to discuss its plans.

The new contract would replace an existing effort called Sustainment of Optical Telescopes and Radars, according to a Dec. 29 notice.

The scope of the work, which the Air Force will discuss at the Jan. 17 and 18 industry day, involves managing maintenance and modernization of a number of SSA systems, including the new Space Fence radar at Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands, the Space Surveillance Telescope in Australia and various space battle management command-and-control systems.

That work will include ensuring interoperability with current and future command-and-control systems, which will become increasingly important as the service in in the midst of a large-scale effort to analyze and upgrade its C2 architecture.
