Air Force releases RFI for JASSM M-code receiver

The Air Force is looking for suppliers that can provide M-code signal receivers to improve the security and anti-jamming capabilities of the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile’s GPS navigation, according to a request for information released today.

Under the program's acquisition strategy, the Air Force would contract directly with the vendor, which would work with JASSM prime contractor Lockheed Martin through an associate contractor agreement, the notice states.

The Air Force is interested in suppliers that can potentially make at least 3,000 M-code receivers that by the end of the third quarter of fiscal year 2021 have a technology readiness level of 5. The RFI also seeks feedback on suppliers' current manufacturing capacity and to what extent the production line can surge output -- independent of JASSM needs -- between 2025 and 2033.

JASSM is a conventional, long-range cruise missile that uses a GPS-aided inertial navigation system and an imaging infrared seeker to strike fixed and moving targets. Lockheed makes an extended-range variant (JASSM-ER) and is working on an even more advanced “D” version the Air Force is expected to place its first order for later in FY-21.

White papers are due by Dec. 30.
