Army announces eight upcoming rotations

The Army today announced the next block of overseas rotations scheduled between this winter and spring 2019.

The 2nd Security Force Assistance Brigade, headquartered at Ft. Bragg, NC, will deploy next spring to Afghanistan, where the 1st SFAB is currently stationed. The 2nd SFAB, commanded by Brig. Gen. Donn Hill, will continue the "train, advise, assist" mission of the 1st SFAB, working with the Afghan National Security Forces.

Three 1st Infantry Division units stationed at Ft. Riley, KS, will deploy to Europe and Afghanistan this winter.

The 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division will replace the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division in Europe to support Operation Atlantic Resolve.

The 1st Infantry Division Combat Aviation Brigade will replace the 4th Infantry Division Combat Aviation Brigade in Europe to support Operation Atlantic Resolve.

And the 1st Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade will replace the 101st Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade in Afghanistan to support Operation Freedom's Sentinel.

The 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY, will deploy to Iraq in the winter, replacing the 3rd Cavalry Regiment. The unit, commanded by Col. Derek Thomson, will support Operation Inherent Resolve.

The 1st Cavalry Division Headquarters, stationed at Ft. Hood, TX, will deploy to Afghanistan in early 2019, replacing the 40th Infantry Division Headquarters, California Army National Guard. The unit, commanded by Maj. Gen. Paul Calvert, will support Operation Freedom's Sentinel.  

Also supporting Operation Freedom's Sentinel, the 1st Armored Division Combat Aviation Brigade, stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX, will deploy to Afghanistan in early 2019, replacing the 101st Airborne Division Combat Aviation Brigade. The unit is commanded by Col. Jay Hopkins.  

The 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, stationed at Ft. Carson, CO, will deploy to Kuwait in the spring, replacing the 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team, Mississippi Army National Guard. The unit, commanded by Col. Michael Simmering, will support Operation Spartan Shield.
