The Army intends to award an $823.3 million contract for a new capability to enhance its Distributed Common Ground System’s data fabric and analytics capabilities.

The new component, called Capability Drop 2, "addresses the Army's need for a commercial solution that incorporates current industry approaches to enable centralized data receipt, processing, refinement, management, storage, and access," according to a Federal Business Opportunities notice posted this month.

A previous solicitation stated the capability will be able to process data about weather, terrain, threats and will work with Army, joint and partner systems.

"The capabilities will dynamically ingest data from multiple sources with varying data models to operate with common/open interfaces, enabling data discovery," according to the latest notice. "DCGS-A CD 2 addresses the Army's need for a commercial solution that incorporates current industry approaches to enable centralized data receipt, processing, refinement, management, storage and access. Additionally, this solution will enable intelligence reach to the tactical force and enable distribution of geospatial information and services for mission command. This solution can be used at any echelon with a data refinement mission."

For fiscal year 2020, the Army requested $12.5 million in procurement and $94.5 million in research, development, test and evaluation funding for DCGS-Army.

The contract will include a four-year base period and a three-year option period. Responses to the solicitation are due by August 19.
