Army deploying four units across the globe in spring, summer

The Army on Jan. 10 announced four upcoming deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea and Europe.

The 10th Mountain Division Headquarters will deploy from Ft. Drum, NY, in the spring to Iraq. The unit, commanded by Maj. Gen. Walter Piatt, will replace the 1st Armored Division Headquarters in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

The 101st Airborne Division Headquarters from Ft. Campbell, KY, will deploy in the spring to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel. The unit, commanded by Maj. Gen. Andrew Poppas, will replace the 3rd Infantry Division Headquarters.

The 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division from Ft. Stewart, GA, this spring will replace the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division in Korea. The incoming brigade is commanded by Col. Mike Adams.

This summer, the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division will deploy from Ft. Hood, TX, to Europe as part of a heel-to-toe rotation of forces. Commanded by Col. Wilson Rutherford, the brigade will replace the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.
