Army identifies units deploying to Middle East this fall

The Army this afternoon announced a trio of upcoming deployments to the U.S. Central Command area of operations.

Roughly 3,500 soldiers from the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, based at Ft. Bliss, TX, will deploy to Kuwait. The brigade will replace the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division in that role, supporting Operation Spartan Shield requirements.

Separately, the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade and 3rd Sustainment Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, based at Ft. Stewart, GA, will deploy this fall to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel.

The 3rd CAB will replace the 16th Combat Aviation Brigade, 7th Infantry Division, while the 3rd Sustainment Brigade will succeed the 1st Sustainment Brigade, 1st Armored Division.
