The Army Science Board will convene in open and closed sessions July 20 to review four fiscal year 2017 studies, according to a July 6 Federal Register notice.

The first study, a classified report on Multi-Domain Battle, will be presented from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. during a closed session. Army Training and Doctrine Command is spearheading the development of Multi-Domain Battle doctrine, which will be incorporated into the service's next field manual, FM 3-0, set for release this fall.

At 10:00 a.m., another classified study, "The Future Character of Warfare and Required Capabilities," will be presented to the board in closed session. Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley has repeatedly emphasized the need to prepare for a "fundamental change in the character of war."

The final classified study, "Capabilities To Operate in Megacities and Dense Urban Areas," will be presented in a closed session from 11:15 to 12:15. Acting Secretary Robert Speer commissioned the study, which was sponsored by TRADOC commander Gen. David Perkins.

The sole unclassified study, "Improving Transition of Laboratory Programs Into Warfighting Capabilities Through Experimentation," will be presented from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. during an open portion of the ASB meeting.

An earlier Federal Register notice had provided different times for the study presentations.
