Biden nominates Spangler for Army comptroller

President Biden has nominated Caral Spangler for the position of assistant secretary of the Army for financial management and comptroller, according to the White House.

Spangler retired last September after a 39-year career in government service, serving as a career member of the Senior Executive Service in every military service and the Pentagon comptroller's office.

She served as the director of the investment directorate within the Pentagon comptroller's office; the director of the budget coordination division in the Navy comptroller's office; the deputy for budget in the Air Force comptroller's office; the principal deputy assistant Army secretary for financial management and comptroller; and retired as the Marine Corps assistant deputy commandant for programs and resources.

"In these capacities, she has had oversight of every aspect of programming, budgeting, accounting, finance, financial systems, program and cost analysis in the Department of Defense," according to a June 3 White House announcement. "She also served in acting capacities as the Auditor General, Department of the Navy, and as the Assistant Secretary of the Army (FM&C). She was the recipient of a Presidential Meritorious Rank award in 2015."
