President Biden has signed into law a massive fiscal year 2022 omnibus appropriations bill that will spend $782 billion on national defense, which is $30 billion more than he initially requested and $42 billion more than what Congress enacted in FY-21.
The Pentagon’s portion of the overall FY-22 defense budget, including military construction, will be $743.2 billion.
The final tally for the Pentagon includes about a $20 billion modernization boost, with around $12 billion going toward procurement and approximately $7 billion for research, development, test and evaluation.
Meanwhile, the White House is expected to submit the FY-23 budget to Congress in the coming weeks.
