The Defense Department has spent approximately $1.46 trillion on war-related operations since 9/11, according to a Pentagon report.

The report, originally obtained by Secrecy News, breaks down spending by DOD's various current and past contingency operations.

While past military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan have cost DOD $1.3 billion, current contingencies, like Operation Freedom's Sentinel in Afghanistan, Operation Inherent Resolve covering Iraq and Syria, and Operation Noble Eagle dedicated to homeland security efforts in the United States and Canada, have cost DOD a total of $147.6 billion, according to the report.

DOD continues to spend approximately $3.2 billion per month in Afghanistan and $600 million per month on contingencies in Iraq and Syria, the report states.

Meanwhile, DOD has begun deploying approximately 3,000 additional U.S. troops to Afghanistan to reinforce the 11,600 already there.
