In the wake of attacks in Paris that left at least 129 people dead, the United States plans to "bolster" its intelligence-sharing program with the French government, per new guidance from high-ranking defense officials, according to a statement from Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook.

"Secretary of Defense Ash Carter and Director of National Intelligence Jim Clapper have provided new instructions that will enable U.S. military personnel to more easily share operational planning information and intelligence with our French counterparts on a range of shared challenges to the fullest extent allowed by existing law and policy," Cook said.

He added: "‎This new guidance underscores the strength of the security partnership with France and builds on longstanding cooperation that will improve our ability to deter and defeat mutual enemies, particularly" the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, which has claimed credit for the attacks in Paris.
