Japanese tug boat loses propulsion, drifts into Navy destroyer

A commercial tug boat lost propulsion and "drifted" into the guided-missile destroyer Benfold (DDG-65) during a towing exercise in Sagami Wan, Japan, according to a Navy statement.

"No one was injured on either vessel and Benfold sustained minimal damage, including scrapes on its side, pending a full damage assessment," according to a U.S. 7th Fleet statement.

The Benfold remains at sea under her own power, while the Japanese commercial tug is being towed by another vessel to a port in Yokosuka. The incident is still under investigation.
