JSTARS 'red team' to complete work in October

An Air Force "red team" tasked with evaluating whether the service should change its current plan to recapitalize the E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System fleet expects to complete its work in October, according to service Secretary Heather Wilson.

The Air Force announced earlier this month it is exploring whether the JSTARS mission could be better met by a network of systems hosted on multiple platforms rather than by a single aircraft, as is the current plan.

Wilson said the service is trying to "very quickly" evaluate its options to ensure that its JSTARS replacement effort is adequate to combat future threats.
