Lockheed Martin has received a $1.1 billion contract to produce Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System units through July 2021, the company announced last night.

The award covers production of more than 9,500 GMLRS Unitary and Alternative Warhead rockets and more than 300 Low-Cost Reduced-Range Practice Rockets, according to a press release.

GMLRS is employed with M270A1 Multiple Launch Rocket System and M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System launchers. The Alternative Warhead variant first saw combat in 2017.

The Army’s fiscal year 2020 budget request includes plans to start a new effort integrating an advanced seeker into the Alternative Warhead as part of a nearly $140 million research, development, test and evaluation program.
