Lockheed Martin and Leonardo confirmed today that neither company would protest the Air Force's $9.2 billion contract award to a Boeing-Saab team to develop the next-generation trainer.

"We are disappointed the T-50A was not selected as we believe it offered the most capability at a competitive cost and is ready now," Lockheed said in an Oct. 11 statement. "With that said, we have decided not to protest the U.S. Air Force decision."

Boeing and Saab won the deal over a Lockheed Martin-Korea Aerospace Industries team and Leonardo DRS in the competition to build at least 475 new trainers for the Air Force. Leonardo spokesman Mike Mount told Inside Defense Thursday the company will not protest the decision either.
