HUNTSVILLE, AL -- Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. James McConville has been nominated as the service's next chief of staff, the Association of the United States Army announced today at its annual Global Force Summit.

The Senate received the nomination last night for McConville to replace Gen. Mark Milley and become the Army's 40th chief.

Milley is slated to become the next chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, following an announcement from President Trump in December that he intended to nominate Milley to the post, succeeding Marine Corps Gen. Joe Dunford.

Dunford will step down in September, according to the Defense Department.
