Vice Chief of Naval Operations Adm. William Moran has been selected to serve as the next Chief of Naval Operations.
The president sent Moran’s nomination to the Senate yesterday, according to the upper chamber’s website.
Should the Senate confirm his appointment, Moran would succeed Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson, who has served as the CNO since September 2015.
Vice Adm. Robert Burke, currently the deputy chief of naval operations for manpower, personnel, training and education, has been nominated to fill Moran’s position as the vice chief of naval operations. Burke is up for a promotion to admiral.
Moran has served as the vice chief of naval operations since May 2016.
