The Navy yesterday announced a $125.4 million contract modification to Lockheed Martin-owned Sikorsky for the Marine Corps' new heavy-lift helicopter.

The modification is a not-to-exceed award for long-lead time materials in preparation for seven CH-53K King Stallions. The helicopters are for Lot 5 of the program's low-rate initial production phase.

Work on the contract is slated to finish by August 2021, according to the announcement.

Inside Defense recently reported the Navy is prepared to speed up production of the CH-53K after fixing numerous technical deficiencies.
