The Navy today awarded Austal USA and Lockheed Martin contract modifications worth up to $584.2 million each to build a Littoral Combat Ship.
The contract modification has a cost cap set by Congress. Both companies will perform and oversee all necessary design, planning, construction and test and trials for their ships, according to the contract announcement.
“The Navy expects to release a competitive solicitation(s) for additional LCS class ships in future years, and therefore the specific contract award amount for these ships is considered source selection sensitive information,” the announcement reads.
In the most recent selected acquisition report, the Pentagon for the first time disclosed the cost of LCS 11-15.
