Navy delays NGEN-R contract by about five months

The Navy said today it is delaying the Next Generation Enterprise Network recompete by about five months to implement a new "sprint" contract development process.

Two primary NGEN-R contracts were slated for award in June. Instead, the service will award an end user hardware contract in November 2018 and a service management, integration and transport contract in December 2018, according to a Navy statement.

The "sprint" contract development process includes weekly conference calls, one-on-one industry question-and-answer sessions and an engineering day.

"The increased industry interaction encourages and promotes industry input early on in the process to develop better acquisition documents for government and industry alike," according to the Navy's statement.

The service said it would share more information about the NGEN-R schedule at a media roundtable next week.
