The Navy yesterday announced a $145.6 million undefinitized contract action to Huntington Ingalls Industries for long lead items for an America-class amphibious assault ship.
The award is for HII's shipyard in Pascagoula, MS to begin purchasing materials for LHA-9.
The service anticipates HII finishing the work by February 2024.
In a press release about yesterday's award, HII noted the Navy has issued $350 million in advance procurement money for LHA-9.
LHA-9, which is the second Flight I ship, is slated to have a well-deck, unlike LHA-6 and LHA-7, which are categorized as Flight 0 ships.
