The Navy is seeking proposals for the design and testing of Armored Reconnaissance Vehicle technology demonstrators, according to a broad agency announcement posted Oct. 4.

"It is desired that a future ARV will be capable of fighting for information in an increasingly complex and contested environment and able to counter threats with greater reach and lethality," the presolicitation reads.

The initiative, launched by the Office of Naval Research, will begin during the second quarter of fiscal year 2019 and continue until the end of the second quarter of FY-21.

Inside the Navy  previously reported the Marine Corps' plans to begin competition for the ARV during the third quarter of FY-21. The ARV is slated to replace the service's Light Armored Vehicle.

"The focus of this effort is to design, fabricate, test, and demonstrate full scale advanced technology demonstrators and to provide blast/ballistic hulls," the presolicitation continues. "The platforms and blast/ballistic hulls will be used to demonstrate the state of the art and to assess the potential capability and performance of advanced technologies and future concepts."

Last year, Inside the Navy reported that General Dynamics Land Systems and BAE Systems plan to compete for the ARV contract. BAE Systems in June won the contract to build the Amphibious Combat Vehicle, which will replace the Marine Corps' Assault Amphibious Vehicle.
