North Korea launches another ICBM into Sea of Japan

North Korea launched an intercontinental ballistic missile into the Sea Japan today, according to an initial assessment by the Pentagon.

"The missile was launched from Sain Ni, North Korea, and traveled about 1000 km before splashing down in the Sea of Japan, within Japan's Economic Exclusion Zone," according to Col. Rob Manning, a Defense Department spokesman.

He said North American Aerospace Defense Command determined the launch did not pose a threat to North America, U.S. territories or allies.

The launch is the latest in a series of 2017 tests condemned by the United States and its allies.

"Our commitment to the defense of our allies, including the Republic of Korea and Japan, in the face of these threats, remains ironclad," Manning said. "We remain prepared to defend ourselves and our allies from any attack or provocation."
