Science Applications International Corp. said this week the ongoing pandemic cost it about $33 million in sales during its most recent quarter.

"These impacts were primarily driven by SAIC employees and subcontractors unable to access facilities to perform on customer contracts and uncertain profit recovery on ready-state labor," the company said.

SAIC reported sales of nearly $1.8 billion during the quarter, up 9% from the same three-month period a year earlier. The company said it benefited from its acquisition of Unisys Federal; without that acquisition, sales would have grown 3%.

The contractor announced quarterly profit of $36 million, down about 35% from the prior year.

In a call with analysts Thursday evening, Nazzic Keene, SAIC's chief executive, said the company is "committed to providing all direct charge employees with paychecks at least through August 1."

Keene said about 75% of SAIC's employees are currently working remotely.
