Thomas nominated to No. 2 Marine Corps post

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis announced today that Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Gary Thomas has been nominated to become the service's next assistant commandant.

According to a Pentagon statement, Thomas is currently serving as the deputy commandant for programs and resources.

If confirmed by the Senate, Thomas would be promoted to general and succeed Gen. Glenn Walters, who is retiring and will become the president of The Citadel.
