The Army today announced a new billet for a key acquisition official, shifting his focus from the ground vehicle portfolio to the service’s network and communications platforms.

Maj. Gen. David Bassett, who has served since September 2013 as program executive officer for ground combat systems, will become program executive officer for command, control and communications-tactical. The new post will take Bassett from Warren, MI to Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.

Bassett, who has a reputation for leading once-troubled acquisition programs across the finish line, will run PEO C3T as the Army strives to redefine its network strategy. Programs that succeeded on his watch include the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle and the Paladin Integrated Management system.

In his current role, he has spearheaded the Army's effort to rapidly acquire non-developmental active protection systems for the Abrams, Bradley and Stryker.

Bassett previously served as project manager for tactical vehicles within the program executive office for combat support and combat service support, later heading the joint program office for the JLTV. He subsequently served as deputy program executive officer for CS&CSS.

Bassett is slated to assume his new duties Jan. 30. He will succeed Gary Martin, who has led PEO C3T since June 2015.

Brig. Gen. Brian Cummings, who is promotable to major general, will succeed Bassett at PEO GCS. Cummings currently serves as PEO Soldier at Ft. Belvoir, VA.
