The White House has advanced the nomination of Boeing executive Patrick Shanahan to be deputy defense secretary to the Senate.

Shanahan's nomination was sent over Wednesday alongside 11 others, according to the White House. It comes nearly three months after President Trump first announced his intention to nominate Shanahan to the Pentagon's No. 2 civilian post.

If confirmed, Shanahan will take over for Bob Work, who has served as deputy defense secretary since 2014. Shanahan is senior vice president of supply chain and operations at Boeing. He previously was vice president of airplane programs within Boeing's commercial airplanes business and also served as general manager of Boeing Missile Defense Systems.
