Boeing received $1.8 billion in award fees for its work on the Ground-based Midcourse Defense program between 2001 and 2015, according to a Missile Defense Agency letter settling a lawsuit with the Los Angeles Times.

The letter dated June 17, 2015, and released by the newspaper on Friday, says the information was provided in the course of litigation after the Times sought a detailed category breakdown of Boeing's cumulative fees for the GMD between December 31, 2001, and March 1, 2015.

Along with stating the cumulative award fees, the letter notes that Boeing also received $80 million in incentive cost fees and $10 million in incentive performance fees.

Meanwhile, the GMD program has garnered criticism from government watchdogs for being an unproven capability, despite claims of progress.
