House lawmaker's letter on Mattis exemption

On Jan. 12, 2017, House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Adam Smith (D-WA) urged his colleagues to vote against a waiver that would exempt retired Marine Corps Gen. James Mattis from a statutory limitation that renders him ineligible to serve as defense secretary.
