The new name of the former Harris government IT services unit is Peraton, the company announced today.

The Harris unit was purchased by private-equity firm Veritas Capital earlier this year. Last month, Stu Shea, a former executive at Leidos and Science Applications International Corp., was named chief executive of the business.

“Peraton is based on the idea that the operations the company supports are essential to national security,” the company said. “The name is a construct of the prefix ‘per,’ which means ‘thoroughly,’ and the word ‘imperative,’ reflecting the importance of our customers’ missions.”
